Our Story – The Creation of Seven Palms Recovery
Seven Palms Recovery was born from a deeply personal journey of struggle, resilience, and transformation. My name is Cory Lewis, and I am a lifelong resident of Hollywood, Florida. My experience with addiction and recovery runs deep—both personally and within my family. After battling my own substance use, experiencing devastating losses, and facing the harsh realities of addiction, I dedicated my life to helping others find recovery.
The name Seven Palms holds profound meaning, rooted in my family’s history. My mother, Renee, was adopted at a young age and overcame incredible hardships with unwavering faith and strength. She has always been a guiding light, inspiring me with her love for God and her ability to uplift those around her. My stepfather, Brendan, shares that same deep faith and commitment to service, reinforcing the spiritual foundation that drives Seven Palms.
My father, Rick, was a free-spirited, beach-loving soul who battled addiction and spent time in and out of jail. While incarcerated, he discovered the works of Jimmy Buffett, which inspired him to write his own imaginative story. In his letters to me, he described a place called Seven Palms—a family-owned oasis on an island where people could find everything they needed in one place. At the time, both he and I were caught in the grips of addiction—he serving time for drug trafficking, and I on probation. Those letters planted a seed, and years later, Seven Palms Recovery became a reality.
Tragedy and hardship shaped my path to sobriety. My younger brother, Blayne, lost his life at the age of 27 on December 5, 2009—the day after my first son was born. He was under the influence and stumbled into traffic. Just two weeks later, my father overdosed in my home, requiring Narcan to be revived. These back-to-back events, combined with the responsibility of fatherhood, pushed me into a self-destructive spiral that ultimately led to my arrest in March 2010. Facing an armed drug trafficking charge, I was given a second chance thanks to a friend in law enforcement. My charges were reduced to simple possession, and instead of prison, I was placed in drug court. On April 30, 2010, I entered treatment at BARC, and on May 1, 2010, I began my journey of sobriety. I have remained clean and sober ever since.
Throughout my recovery, my family has been my anchor. My younger brother, Kyle, has been my greatest friend and role model in how to live life with integrity. My older brother, Sean, has always been an inspiration with his many talents. My children are my motivation, and my longtime partner, Tara, stood by my side through my darkest times, giving me the strength to keep pushing forward.
Driven by a deep sense of purpose, I committed myself to education and professional growth. Early in my recovery, I earned my GED, followed by an associate degree, a bachelor’s degree in social work, and ultimately, a master’s degree in social work. For the past several years, I have worked as a therapist and group facilitator, helping individuals find freedom from addiction. This experience, combined with my personal journey, led me to establish Seven Palms Recovery—a place where individuals can heal, rebuild, and rediscover hope.
At Seven Palms, we believe that recovery is a deeply personal journey, and we take an eclectic approach to treatment, integrating evidence-based practices with holistic healing. Our mission is to provide a safe, supportive, and transformative environment where individuals can break free from addiction and create a fulfilling, sober life.
I believe that the best way to honor the life I’ve been given is to help others find theirs. Seven Palms Recovery is not just a treatment center—it’s a sanctuary built on faith, resilience, and the belief that recovery is possible for everyone. I like to help people however I can with treatment or sober living.
